College Football Rankings 2020: Projected AP Top 25 for Week 10
By Zach Bigalke
Texas won’t be denied a triumphant return to the AP Top 25 heading into Week 10 after they knocked off No. 6 Oklahoma State 41-34 in an overtime thriller on Halloween. The Longhorns improved to 4-2 and, more importantly, opened the door wide open in the Big 12 race by taking down the last undefeated team in the league. Tom Herman’s team will get the upset bump above the cut line this week.
Sam Ehlinger completed only 18 of his 34 passes for 169 yards, but he threw three touchdown passes to will the Longhorns to victory. The Texas ground game struggled to get going, averaging barely three yards per carry against the Cowboys. But the Longhorns also managed to come through on defense, holding Chuba Hubbard to only 72 rushing yards (though he caught four passes for 34 yards and a score).
It was the type of showcase game that will surely get enough voters back on the Texas train this week. In Week 10 the Longhorns get another chance to consolidate that position when they face a rising West Virginia team in Austin. Given the state of the Big 12 this year, that matchup of 4-2 teams will serve as an elimination game in the conference race and only the winner will have a Top 25 spot after Week 10.
