Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. 1-1. lost 27-24 vs. Michigan State. Michigan Wolverines. 811. 21. player

A week after getting a huge boost in the AP Top 25, Michigan is going to have a big drop after falling to rival Michigan State at home on Saturday afternoon. The Wolverines collapsed 27-24 in a game they never led, dropping to 1-1 in Big Ten play. With enough love from pollsters over the previous few weeks (29 voters had Michigan in their top 12 last week), they will barely hold on in the rankings.

Joe Milton threw for 300 yards against the Spartans, but he needed 51 attempts to reach that benchmark. Milton’s 59 rushing yards also led the team on the ground, which limited the Wolverines’ options in the rushing attack. Michigan’s defense largely contained the Spartans when they ran the ball, but Rocky Lombardi finished with 323 passing yards and three scores in the air to drive the upset.

Hanging on by a thread among the last few teams left in the AP Top 25 this week, Michigan must regroup quickly and prepare for a tough road trip to Indiana. A takedown of the Hoosiers would restore Jim Harbaugh’s team somewhere in the teens; a loss will knock them out of the polls completely.
