College football 2020: Ranking the 3 worst losses from Week 9
1. Georgia State crushed by Coastal Carolina
The team with the worst loss of the week (and potentially the season) goes to Georgia State. The Panthers were set to host unbeaten No. 20 Coastal Carolina in the middle of a Sun Belt East hunt. Georgia State was not able to find any answers against the Chanticleers.
Coastal Carolina out-gained the Panthers in total yards 530-106 with 250 of them coming from the rushing game. The Panthers’ run defense allowed an average of 5.3 yards per rush on 47 attempts. Three differential ball-carriers scored touchdowns. Grayson McCall threw for 254 yards, four touchdowns, no interceptions on 18-of-24 completions. He also rushed for a touchdown against Georgia State.
Georgia State was unable to drive the ball consistently against the aggressive defense of the Chanticleers. The Panthers’ offensive line allowed three sacks, five tackles for loss and three quarterback hurries. Georgia State encountered five fumbles with only one of them lost and one interception. The Georgia State offense was only 1-for-10 on third-down conversions as well as averaged 2.7 yards per rush on 28 rushing attempts.
The Panthers (2-3, 1-3 Sun Belt) will look to rebound as they host Louisiana-Monroe (0-7, 0-4) this Saturday. This matchup will be the perfect setting for the Panthers to recover after one of the ugliest losses in the 2020 season.
