Louisiana preserved their position in the AP Top 25 another week as they took down South Alabama 38-10 on Saturday. The Ragin’ Cajuns ensured that the Sun Belt kept two teams in the poll for another week with their decisive victory at home in Lafayette. The win also secured the Sun Belt West for Louisiana; with two conference games left to play the Ragin’ Cajuns now have a two-game lead plus the tiebreaker on the Jaguars.

Levi Lewis threw for 252 yards and three touchdowns, completing 21 of his 31 passes on the day. Chris Smith had a 22-yard touchdown burst out of the backfield and led the team with 99 yards on seven carries. Louisiana’s defense held South Alabama to only 268 total yards while forcing two Jaguars turnovers. It was a comprehensive effort in all phases of the game by a dominant Louisiana squad.

Now the Ragin’ Cajuns turn their attention to a Week 12 stat-padding game against FCS Central Arkansas. That game precedes Sun Belt road games against Louisiana-Monroe and Appalachian State to close out the regular season. With the division already locked up, Louisiana cannot afford to blow a game if they hope to remain ranked and in the New Year’s Six discussion.
