3. The (D’Eriq) King factor

Last season, it was apparent the Hurricanes were devoid of on-field leadership on offense. Neither Jarren Williams nor N’Kosi Perry seemed fit to lead. Offensive coordinator Mike Enos was a disaster hire at offensive coordinator. This season, the Hurricanes went into the transfer portal and got Houston transfer D’Eriq King.

King has been everything the Hurricanes have needed. This game was a perfect example of what the Hurricanes needed at quarterback. This was not a game where the Texas native put up gaudy numbers; however, it was the leadership the Hurricanes needed. King was unflappable despite the Hurricanes not leading until late in the fourth quarter.

The most important thing King did was to keep his team in the game. King took care of the ball — no turnovers — and let the defense keep the game close and allowed the Hurricanes to win the game in the end.
