Miami Football: 3 takeaways from thrilling win over Virginia Tech
By Dante Pryor
1. Quick takeaways for Virginia Tech
The Hokies’ defense did not play poorly. The Miami running game, which had been averaging 172 rushing yards per game, had just 131 rushing yards at 2.9 yards per rush. The Hokies’ lack of a perimeter threat was exposed without star running Khalil Herbert at full strength. Hooker played well, but Virginia Tech could not find their way in the endzone in the fourth quarter.
Next week, the Hokies try to snap their two-game losing streak traveling to Heinz Field to play the Pitt Panthers on the road next Saturday afternoon.
Quick takeaways for Miami
The Hurricanes showed a lot of maturity in this game without 13 players and getting down early. The leadership of D’Eriq King was crucial. King kept the offense together and never let the Hurricanes get too down. The defense had a great game sacking Hooker six times. Miami allowed ten points in the second half. The Hurricanes did get tight end Jordan Knight in this game.
The Hurricanes look to continue their winning ways when they take on Georgia Tech next Saturday night.
