Iowa State Football: 3 takeaways from thrashing of Kansas State
By Andrew Tineo
1. Iowa State is playing like the Big 12 favorite
With the chaos that started in just Week 1 alone, there was no sense of direction of who was going to win this conference. There wasn’t much more clarity after Oklahoma and Texas fell to 2-2. Ever since the Cyclones upset loss to Louisiana, Iowa State has been near flawless.
Although the defense has played well, this may have been the most impressive performance from that unit all season long. Even with Skylar Thompson being out, this is a dangerous rushing attack. However, Kansas State had no shot, because of how suffocating Iowa State was.
Playing defense at that high of a level this late in the season is a very encouraging sign. Kansas State running back Deuce Vaughn was barely mentioned throughout the game, because of how good Iowa State’s front-seven was.
For Iowa State, its next game will be a big test with traveling to Austin to face the No. 22 Longhorns. Kansas State will stay on the road next week as they face Baylor.
