Projected 2020 College Football Playoff Top 25 rankings for Week 13
By Zach Bigalke
Charlotte continues to deal with a COVID-19 outbreak on their roster, and they were forced to cancel their trip to Huntington to face Marshall in Week 12. Ranked in the top 15 in both the AP Top 25 and the Coaches Poll, expect the Thundering Herd to end up somewhere in the mid-teens of the inaugural College Football Playoff selection committee rankings of 2020.
As one of only a handful of remaining Group of Five teams with unblemished records, the Herd will get love from the committee. Marshall boasts one of the nation’s best defenses, giving up only 10.1 points per game and holding opponents under 260 total yards of offense per game. They also feature one of the best offensive lines in the entire FBS, with opponents managing only five sacks through seven games.
With their spot in the Conference USA championship game all but locked in at this point, Marshall remains on track for a possible New Year’s Six berth. The Thundering Herd already had Thanksgiving weekend off, so they won’t return to the field until their December 5 home game against Rice. A Friday-night game at FIU follows, and it is uncertain at this point where a makeup game against Charlotte might fit into the remaining schedule.
