ACC Football Power Rankings, Week 13: Florida State flirts with bottom
By Dante Pryor
5. North Carolina State Wolfpack (6-3, 5-3)
The Wolfpack spoiled the Liberty Flames quest for a 3-0 record against the ACC with an uneventful 15-14 win at home last weekend. What head coach Dave Doeren has to like after this game was the defense. A maligned group most of the season, the Wolfpack defense held dynamic Liberty quarterback Malik Willis in check all game.
The Auburn transfer had his worst game of the season completing just 40 percent of his passes with three interceptions running for just 2.9 yards per carry. The Wolfpack have an opportunity to end their season on a three-game winning streak with Georgia Tech and Syracuse left on their schedule.
4. North Carolina Tar Heels (6-2, 6-2)
The No. 25 Tar Heels have had an interesting season. They’ve played well at times, but their losses come at the hands of two of the worst teams in the conference — Florida State and Virginia. The defense has given up 20 or more points every same except Syracuse. They’ve also managed to avoid Clemson this season.
The next three weeks will show head coach Mack Brown what these Tar Heels are made of. They play Notre Dame this weekend and end the season with Miami with their plus one between.
3. Miami Hurricanes (7-1, 6-1)
The Hurricanes recent outbreak has caused the ACC to reshuffle its scheduling. Here’s the breakdown:
Their scheduled game against Georgia Tech for this Saturday is now on Dec. 19 — the same day as the ACC championship game. The ACC noted that the game would be played only if Miami is not in the ACC title game, and if the result does not directly impact who plays in the title game.
Their Nov. 28 game at Wake Forest is now scheduled for Dec. 5. And their game against North Carolina on Dec. 5 was moved to Dec. 12.
To accommodate those games, several others had to be moved:
Wake Forest will now play Louisville on Nov. 28, a week earlier than previously scheduled.
Western Carolina will play at North Carolina on Dec. 5, moved up from Dec. 11.
Louisville will play at Boston College on Dec. 12, moved back from Nov. 27.
