Projected 2020 College Football Playoff Top 25 rankings for Week 14
By Zach Bigalke
Oklahoma was forced to pause all team activities this week after COVID-19 cases hit their roster, pushing their Week 13 game against West Virginia back to December 12. The idle weekend over the Thanksgiving break probably won’t hurt the Sooners, who entered the first set of College Football Playoff selection committee rankings as the second-highest ranked team with two losses and will probably remain on the cusp of the top 10 for another week despite sitting idle.
The committee was high on the Sooners in large part because of Spencer Rattler’s maturation as well as the return of key players like running back Rhamondre Stevenson and defensive end Ronnie Perkins from suspension. That has even allowed the committee to directly ignore Oklahoma’s head-to-head loss to Iowa State, who remains the lone leader in the Big 12 standings as the only one-loss team in conference play.
Oklahoma stays at home in Week 14 to take on Baylor on the first Saturday in December. Following that game is a trip to Morgantown for the makeup game against West Virginia. Should Oklahoma win out, they will reach the Big 12 championship game — but they will also head into that game without their previously anticipated by on the weekend before, thanks to the postponement this weekend.
