Projected 2020 College Football Playoff Top 25 rankings for Week 14
By Zach Bigalke
Miami is in their second week of a holding pattern. After their Week 12 game against Georgia Tech was postponed until December 12, the Hurricanes had a three-week break after taking their already-scheduled idle weekend over Thanksgiving break. Despite that lack of recent data, the College Football Playoff selection committee saw fit to include them in the top 10 of their first Top 25 rankings of the 2020 season.
Will Miami stay there this week after all that transpired around the country over Week 13? Given the narrow escapes over the three games before their long hiatus, the Hurricanes could slip out of the top 10 this week and somewhere into the pre-teens. Given how they need help to get past Clemson and Notre Dame for a spot in the ACC championship game, the ceiling for Manny Diaz’s team at this point is probably hovering around the low double digits.
If they win out against Wake Forest, North Carolina, and Georgia Tech, the Hurricanes still have a really solid shot to land in the New Year’s Six. A 10-1 Miami team would make an attractive pick for the hometown Orange Bowl this year. After the disappointment of a losing season in 2019, that would make for one massive turnaround in Coral Gables.
