Projected 2020 College Football Playoff Top 25 rankings for Week 14
By Zach Bigalke
Iowa State came through on Black Friday with a 23-20 win in Austin against No. 17 Texas. The Cyclones remain in sole possession of the lead in the Big 12 race after Breece Hall’s three-yard touchdown run inside the final minute and a half claimed victory on the road. Ranked No. 13 in the initial set of College Football Playoff rankings, we could see the Cyclones inch closer to the top 10 in the selection committee’s Top 25 when the next set of rankings comes out on December 1.
Hall finished with 91 yards and a touchdown on 20 carries, the first time this season that the Cyclones running back failed to hit triple digits on the ground. Brock Purdy went 25-of-36 for 312 yards and a touchdown and added 91 rushing yards for good measure. Iowa State won despite a defensive effort that conceded 448 yards to the Longhorns, as they forced a Texas fumble and two turnovers on downs.
Matt Campbell’s team can keep itself in New Year’s Six contention and lock in their spot in the Big 12 championship game with a Week 14 win at home against West Virginia. If they lose to the Mountaineers, they still have a shot to reach the conference title tilt but will have to rely on others to help them get there.
