Projected 2020 College Football Playoff Top 25 rankings for Week 14
By Zach Bigalke
Georgia shocked many when they came in as the top-ranked team with two losses in the eyes of the College Football Playoff selection committee. With the teams right behind them in the committee’s first Top 25 of the year idle in Week 13, the Bulldogs will hold on to top-10 position for another week after taking a 35-10 lead through two and a half quarters against South Carolina on the road over Thanksgiving weekend.
The ground game was the catalyst for Georgia’s victory. The backfield tandem of James Cook and Zamir White combined for 182 yards and four touchdowns on 22 carries in the first two-plus quarters of work. JT Daniels was solid when called upon to pass, completing seven of his first 10 passes for 87 yards with a touchdown and an interception. Georgia’s defense held the Gamecocks under one yard per carry and should continue to prevent any chance of a comeback in Columbia.
Barring a complete Florida collapse, Georgia has next to no chance of reaching the SEC championship game this year. The College Football Playoff is out of reach despite the high rankings, but if they close out the regular season as expected with a Week 14 win over Vanderbilt the 7-2 Bulldogs would be an attractive option for a New Year’s Six bowl.
