Projected 2020 College Football Playoff Top 25 rankings for Week 14
By Zach Bigalke
Florida toppled Kentucky 34-10 on Saturday to improve to 7-1 and move one step closer to playing for the SEC title. The Gators will continue to hover just outside the top four of the College Football Playoff standings, but they might move ahead of Texas A&M after another convincing victory. It all depends on whether the selection committee continues to privilege the Aggies’ head-to-head victory or take a more holistic approach to evaluating each team’s respective cases.
Kyle Trask completed 21 of 27 passes for 256 yards and three touchdowns, putting up prolific numbers on one of his more quiet days so far this season. The running game continues to struggle in Gainesville, as the backfield finished with only 104 combined yards in the win. Florida’s defense stood firm against the Wildcats, holding Kentucky to 221 total yards of offense and snatching three interceptions along the way.
The Gators head to Neyland Stadium to square off against Tennessee in Week 14. If they win against the Volunteers on the road, Florida will represent the East in the SEC title game no matter what happens in their makeup game against LSU to end the regular season. If they reach the showdown against Alabama with a 9-1 record, though, the College Football Playoff is well within reach for Dan Mullen’s crew.
