2. Defense came to play

One aspect of the Gators that has been lacking this season has been the defense but against Tennessee, that happened to be a strength.

Tennessee needed three quarterbacks to reach 240 yards through the air and two touchdowns on 27-of-36 passing. The secondary didn’t play its best game but luckily Tennessee wasn’t able to burn the Gators. They kept the Volunteers out of the end zone for most of the game leading up to the final quarter when Tennessee was able to score a 22-yard touchdown from JT Shrout through the air.

On the ground, the Volunteers didn’t exactly have an effective game, rushing for 94 yards and a touchdown on 39 carries. Florida’s only touchdown surrendered on the ground was a poor-tackling 7-yard score in the fourth quarter.

The Gators need to improve on defense and they made some baby steps on Saturday by allowing just 334 yards total.
