won 45-10 at Virginia Tech. 3. player. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. 9-1. Clemson Tigers. 879

For most of the first half, it looked like Virginia Tech might hang with Clemson. Then the Tigers showed why they have been the ACC champion for the past five years, pulling away for a 45-10 win on the road in Blacksburg. Dabo Swinney’s team improved to 9-1 and set up a chance for themselves to play not only in the ACC title game but also for a spot in the College Football Playoff for a sixth straight year.

Against the Hokies, Trevor Lawrence threw for 195 yards with a touchdown and an interception on 12-of-22 passing. Lawrence added two touchdowns on the ground along with 41 rushing yards. Travis Etienne led the ground game, running for 66 yards on 16 carries. Lyn-J Dixon also had a rushing touchdown. Clemson’s defense did its job effectively, holding Virginia Tech to only 333 total yards of offense on the day.

Clemson avoided the need to reschedule their road game against Florida State when the ACC ruled that neither the Tigers nor ACC conference game opponent Notre Dame would have to play in Week 15. That gives both teams a bye week ahead of the title bout. After Notre Dame won their regular-season matchup, the Tigers will be hungry to take down the Irish in the rematch.
