Wisconsin won’t drop completely out of the College Football Playoff selection committee’s Top 25 after losing to a higher-ranked team. The Badgers are due to drop between four and six spots this week after falling 14-6 against No. 12 Indiana at home on Saturday. After looking like a potential Playoff dark-horse, Paul Chryst’s team is now probably on the outside of the battle to even land a New Year’s Six spot.

Graham Mertz struggled against the Hoosiers, throwing for only 202 yards on 20-of-34 passing. Mertz, who earlier this season fell ill with COVID-19, struggled as he threw an interception and lost a fumble along the way. Wisconsin’s once-vaunted ground game managed only 140 yards against Indiana. The Badgers actually outgained Indiana by more than 100 yards of offense, but failed to convert those gains into points.

Wisconsin closes out the regular season on the road against Iowa, in a game that will determine which team finishes as the runner-up behind Northwestern in the Big Ten West. If Ohio State fails to reach the minimum number of games to qualify for the Big Ten championship game, they could square off against the Badgers in the divisional matchup series.
