1. Arizona suffers ugly loss to Arizona State

It feels like the biggest losses of the season keep getting more significant as the season rolls along. Week 15 of the season gave fan the likely worst loss of the season as the Arizona Wildcats were absolutely crushed at home by their rivals in the Arizona State Sun Devils 70-7.

The game started ugly for the Wildcats as they allowed a 100-yard touchdown kickoff return for a touchdown by freshman running back D.J. Taylor. The Sun Devils scored 21 points in the first and second quarter as they went into halftime with a 42-7 lead over Arizona.

The Sun Devils out-gained the Wildcats in total yards accounted for 486-to-350 as Arizona State made more big plays than continuing long drives against the defense of the Wildcats. Arizona State threw for 227 passing yards in total but they averaged 17.5 yards per pass. Sun Devils quarterback Jayden Daniels threw for 203 yards, two touchdowns, and a QBR of 99.1 on nine completions (out of 11 passing attempts). Running back Rachaad White rushed for 133 yards and three touchdowns on 10 carries.

While the Wildcats’ offense did an efficient job of trying to extend drives and make the big plays needed to compete with Arizona State, it was their seven turnovers that were the most significant factor of the game. The Wildcats played sloppy football in maintaining the ball and avoiding the mistakes for Arizona State to capitalize on.

As a result of this game, the Wildcats finished their 2020 season with a 0-5 record that cost head coach Kevin Sumlin. The Wildcats will likely be at the bottom of the Pac-12 South division barrel for years to come unless they can make a stellar move at the head coaching vacancy.
