Mountain West: Boise State (-6.5) vs. San Jose State

Anyone that’s seen any of my upset alert articles or Thoughts Around the Nation series knows I’ve been banging that San Jose State drum all season long. This team is for real and they finally get a chance to prove it against a major opponent.

Boise State is once again the class of the Mountain West, going undefeated in conference play. Their only loss was to BYU, in which the Cougars dominated. That game is single-handedly to blame for this not being of more New Year’s Six importance.

San Jose State actually comes into this game ranked while Boise is not. Who would have thought that in September?

For San Jose State to in this game, the Spartan run game, which has greatly improved throughout the season, will have to produce. Nick Nevens will need to extend his 100-yard streak and his running abilities will leave some openings for quarterback Nick Starkel to make big throws and keep the Boise State defense on its heels.

Would it be an upset? To most people, yes. Boise State has been the premier team in the Mountain West for years and is one of the standard bearers of the Group of Five since 2006. I don’t think it would be an upset at all. San Jose State is a quality team and still one of the most underrated in the country.
