2. Texas A&M’s resume stacks up nicely

Their resume does not stack up against Alabama. The Aggies lost the head to head. However, their summation could be comparable to the other teams in the playoff. The only one-loss team in the top four, Clemson has a resume similar to the Aggies.

Texas A&M’s best win is Florida, while Clemson’s best win is against Miami. Based on the play of each team, Florida is a better win than Miami.

However, Clemson’s loss is a better loss than the Aggies. Clemson took Notre Dame to overtime without their best player. However, Ohio State is undefeated this season. Their best wins — Indiana and Northwestern — are comparable with Texas A&M’s best win. The Aggies’ second-best win against Auburn stacks up against any win that Ohio State has this season.

The sticking point the committee might have is with their loss. They were not at all competitive against Alabama. If Texas A&M slides into the playoff, it is hard to put them anywhere other than the No. 4 seed. That means another game against Alabama, and the committee does not want that. Maybe A&M could move to No. 3 if Notre Dame dominates Clemson.
