Way-too-early Top 25 projections for 2021 college football season
By Zach Bigalke
Heading into 2021, a new yet still familiar contender will anchor in among the top four teams in the preseason. After losing the SEC East to Florida in 2020, developments in Athens have Bulldogs fans excited for the potential to win the Georgia’s first national championship in more than four decades.
A big reason for the renewed hope between the hedges is the return of USC transfer JT Daniels at quarterback. With Daniels leading the offense in the final four games, the Bulldogs averaged 98.5 more yards through the air, 3.5 more yards per completion, cut their interceptions by more than half, and boasted one of the top 10 most efficient passing attacks in the country. If they can graft a dynamic aerial attack with their already stout defense, Georgia will be a real threat to take it all in 2021.
Working for Georgia next season is the fact that they get to play Clemson in the regular season along with their rivalry game against Georgia Tech. The Bulldogs also avoid Alabama from the SEC West until a potential championship game matchup. If they can get to Atlanta for a showdown of undefeated division champions, Georgia will be able to play its way into a top seed in the College Football Playoff and the top spot in the AP Top 25 with a win.
