Nebraska will make a bowl and Frost keeps his job

The Nebraska football team is one that should be much improved in 2021, the problem is that the schedule is very difficult.

Nebraska will open the season against Illinois in a game that will be played in Dublin, at least that’s where it’s expected to be played. That means Nebraska will play just three true conference road games: at Michigan State, Purdue and Minnesota.

That part of the schedule isn’t bad. However, the non-conference slate includes a home game against Buffalo, a strong team from the MAC and also a trip to Oklahoma.

The Huskers will lose to the Sooners and also to Ohio State at home. The other home games are against Michigan, Northwestern, Wisconsin, Iowa and Southeastern Louisiana.

That last game will be the one guaranteed win, the rest will be tough. But assuming Nebraska beats Buffalo, that leaves eight games or so that are up in the air.

Wisconsin and Iowa have owned Nebraska, but these games will be in Lincoln and while I don’t see a win over the Badgers, I believe NU gets over the hump against Iowa.

Ultimately, I do believe Nebraska will get to seven wins next season, which will be an important step moving forward, but it won’t be easy and even reaching 6-6 means little room for error.

Assuming Nebraska falls to Ohio State, Oklahoma and Wisconsin, it can only afford three losses, but I’m saying the Huskers win at home against Iowa and Northwestern, as well as on the road against Purdue, Michigan State and Illinois.

Those wins, plus victories over Buffalo and SE Louisiana will get Frost and company to 7-5, which means the Huskers will be bowling once again in 2021.
