An offensive weapon

Mertz wasn’t perfect by any means in 2020, throwing for nine touchdowns and five interceptions, but having more weapons will help and three-star wide receiver Markus Allen could have a chance to get on the field right away.

In the 247 composite rankings, Allen a one-time Michigan commitment, is ranked No. 364 overall and even though he’s a high-ranking three star, Rivals actually lists him as a four star.

Allen decommitted from the Wolverines and Wisconsin football did really well to land him. He’s the first top-500 receiver to sign with the Badgers since Danny Davis in 2017 and since the Badgers don’t have the best group of pass catchers returning, Allen could make an immediate impact.

His ball skills are especially noteworthy and in a play-action passing attack, he could really excel. The Badgers will have Jake Ferguson back for another season, as well as Kendric Pryor and Jack Dunn but Allen is underrated and he could give Mertz another reliable target.
