Tennessee Football: 3 realistic head coach candidates for Volunteers
Tony Elliott, Clemson OC
While Tennessee football fans may prefer a new head coach with previous experience, another name that’s gaining momentum is that of Tony Elliott, the Clemson offensive coordinator.
Elliott has been coaching with the Tigers since 2011, when he started off coaching running backs for Dabo Swinney. Since then, he’s moved into the role of offensive coordinator and he’s been a hot name in head-coaching searches.
The big question is whether or not Elliott would be interested. He’s had other chances to go to places like South Carolina or even Auburn, but didn’t show much interest in those jobs.
Part of that could have been due to the Clemson season still going on at that point, which could give Tennessee a better chance to hire him this time around.
Elliott may be waiting for a bigger job, but Tennessee is a traditional top-25 program in the SEC, so I don’t know how many better will be available.
With the right coach, the Vols have the potential to be an SEC East contender and one of these coaches could be the guy to help them get there.
