2021 Senior Bowl: 6 players who impressed on day two
Robert Jones – guard (Middle Tennessee State) – National
At the offensive line, several big names stood like Alabama tackle Alex Leatherwood and Oklahoma center Creed Humphrey. The best performance from the entire line likely goes to Middle Tennessee State Blue Raiders guard Robert Jones. He was highly efficient in the trenches in the entire practice setting.
Jones measures at 6’4, 319 pounds with one of the largest arm lengths of all offensive line at 33’. Despite his huge size, he was quick and agile in his backward pass movement and the run plays in his reach blocks or getting to the second of the defense.
He was dominant in the one-on-one drills against some of the more aggressive and fastest defensive linemen. Jones never gave up too ground in the pass protection settings in Wednesday’s practice. In an event where any player can boost their draft stock, Jones had a tremendous boost in a draft that has many competitive interior offensive linemen.
Mac Jones – quarterback (Alabama) – American
The most impactful and consistent player for the National squad was a player that has been playing like one of the most consistent players all season long. Alabama Crimson Tide quarterback Mac Jones was one of the most productive players in both practices on Wednesday.
Jones looked solid in his deliveries to his receivers from his arm mechanics to throwing them in a tight window away from the opposing defensive back. Jones had several excellent throws to his receivers including some to Georgia Bulldogs tight end Tre McKitty.
He is consistently building the receivers for the National Team every time he is under center. Jones is currently around the top half of the first round of the 2021 NFL draft. He is also currently the fifth-best quarterback in many football analysts’ quarterback ratings.
If he continues to progress and showcases his ability to dominate the field, he could find himself rising more in the draft.
