The only pure defender to make this list, Shafeek Smith doesn’t have a single Crystal Ball prediction on 247Sports, which is rare, but Iowa State is listed as the only team that’s “warm” for him which is a good indicator that the Cyclones lead here heading into National Signing Day.

Smith is ranked the No. 1,482 prospect in the country and No. 132 cornerback, according to 247Sports. He’s not exactly a blue-chip prospect, but he could be one of those diamonds in the rough.

However, Smith is a bit undersized at 5-9 and 165 pounds which may be contributing to his low ranking, but he holds a dozen offers.

Iowa State could probably land him if they really make him a priority, but it all depends on how much Matt Campbell truly wants him as part of the class and if there’s room. Let’s say he holds on to Eli Sanders and lands the No. 1 target on this list — will there be room?

Who knows, but Smith could be a low-risk, high-reward type of recruit.
