2021 Senior Bowl: 3 takeaways from annual draft showcase
Michael Carter stood out
Michael Carter was apart of the best RB duo in the nation at UNC with running mate Javonte Williams. Today, he got to be the featured star at the Senior Bowl and did not waste this opportunity.
Carter finished today with 60 yards on eight carries and one touchdown. He averaged 7.5 yards per carry which makes sense when you see he averaged eight yards per carry during the 2020 season.
There were two runs in which Carter really impressed. The first was his 27-yard run in the first quarter in which broke off a few tackles and displayed great burst. The second was his touchdown run in which he kept his feet moving and got some help from his offensive line to get in the end zone.
As for the rest of the running backs, we did not see a whole lot with both teams combining for 86 rushing yards. And the majority of it came from Michael Carter’s big day in Mobile.
Amari Rodgers was another player who stood out a bit despite not filling up the stat sheet. He finished with 34 yards on 5 touches and one touchdown. Rodgers was able to show off his great speed, and took a big hit on his touchdown reception. That kind of toughness from the receiver position is very important for long term success.
Dez Fitzpatrick led the way statistically with 90 yards on 6 receptions, as his big frame led to him getting continued targets.
All in all, it wasn’t a star studded offensive showdown. But we did see some playmakers who will be making an impact on Sunday’s in the near future.
