How is the No. 3 recruit in the entire country and top defensive end not the top remaining target on the board for USC? Well, when that No. 3 overall recruit is a near-lock for Ohio State and Alabama is also one of his top choices, you kind of have to realize that he’s probably headed elsewhere.

Tuimoloau is undoubtedly one of the most talented recruits in the entire class and 247Sports even ranks him as the No. 1 overall prospect in the 2021 class. But when you have Ohio State, Alabama and Oregon all pushing hard for you, when Clay Helton and USC come calling, you have to ask yourself which coaching staff is more solidified. Hint: it’s not USC.

Fortunately, the Trojans have the No. 1 overall composite recruit in the nation who also happens to be a defensive end so losing out on Tuimoloau isn’t the end of the world — but imagine that 1-2 punch.

I fully expect Tuimoloau to commit to Ohio State on National Signing Day, but recruiting is wild and anything can happen here. I also wouldn’t be totally blown away if he ended up somewhere in the Pac-12 — USC, Washington or Oregon.
