BYU Football: Way-too-early game-by-game predictions for 2021
By Austin Lloyd
9. Virginia (L)
Well, this is where the luck runs out. Three Power Five opponents, all back-to-back, is just going to be too much for the measly Cougars. Bronco Mendenhall is a darn good coach, having built up a solid football program for the Cavaliers, something he is known for previously doing for BYU themselves. Brigham Young loves Mendenhall, but they won’t on this day.
Record: 6-3
10. Idaho State (W)
There is not much at all to say about this one, as BYU will be out sniffing for blood and ID State plays in the FCS. The Bengals would be better off not even showing up.
Record: 7-3
11. Georgia Southern (W)
The Eagles could make this one look quite interesting for the first quarter or so, if they tried hard enough. But unfortunately for them, a football game is four quarters. And after all of those, the Cougars will have long taken control of the affair.
Record: 8-3
12. USC (L)
USC is a decent Pac-12 team, and they will be hosting BYU in what is one of the most famous college football stadiums ever, LA Memorial Coliseum. After being softened up with weakling competition for a couple of games (which had a bye week between them), Brigham Young will be unprepared for the physicality of the Trojans.
Record: 8-4
BYU will hold a steady 8-4 record up high as they stroll into the postseason. However, 2021 appears to be nothing more than yet another forgettable, Las Vegas Bowl kind of year for the Cougars.
