SWAC football predictions for 2021
The addition of FAMU and B-CU make the SWAC wide open this fall. Whoever wins the conference crown this fall is sure to have earned it. Here are three bold predictions for the conference this fall.
MVSU upsets one team this fall
The Delta Devils were not very good this spring and have not been very good for a while. MVSU has not had a winning season since 2005, and that likely does not change this fall. However, head coach Vincent Dancy has his team playing hard.
If the Delta Devils can find some offense this fall to go along with an aggressive defense, someone will travel to tiny Itta Bena, Mississippi (population 1,544) and get got this season. Don’t be surprised if that upset ruins someone’s chance at the SWAC West.
Southern redeems spring loss against UAPB.
Though the Golden Lions won a close game against Southern this spring, some would say the Jaguars were better. Despite Dawson Odoms abruptly leaving for Norfolk State, the Jaguars hired Jason Collins, an Odoms assistant.
Look for the Jaguars to go to Pine Bluff, Arkansas, and avenge their loss this spring on their way to the SWAC West title.
Alabama A&M repeats as SWAC Champions.
The reasoning for this is simple, the Bulldogs have the best player in the conference with the best offense in the conference. Their defense got loads of experience this spring and should be good enough to steal a possession or two, which is what the Bulldogs’ offense needs.
Even with the loss of Marcus Cushnie to Purdue, the Bulldogs should have just enough defensively. The offensive is going to score a ton. If Aqeel Glass improves his accuracy and the run game is a better compliment to the pass, the SWAC title stays in Huntsville.
