How will UConn football fare in 2021?

Playing as an FBS independent can be tough and it can make your schedules very tough. UConn has a nice blend of opponents this season, which saves some hope for an improvement in the win column.

  • Game 1: at Fresno State (L) — The Bulldogs will be a tough opponent to open the season with and UConn probably does not have much hope here.
  • Game 2: Holy Cross (W) — This is a game the Huskies must win and I think they will.
  • Game 3: Purdue (L) — The Boilermakers are under a lot of pressure to win this season and should win comfortably.
  • Game 4: at Army (L) — Army is a very good all-around team and will be a tough opponent on the road.
  • Game 5: Wyoming (L) — Wyoming is always stingy on defense and that will be a tough matchup for the Huskies.
  • Game 6: at Vanderbilt (L) — Vandy is rebuilding, but they will have enough to take down UConn at home.
  • Game 7: at UMass (L) — I don’t think UMass is going to be very good and this game should be a coin flip, but give me the Minutemen at home.
  • Game 8: Yale (W) — Another game that UConn really needs to win to avoid a certain level of embarrassment.
  • Game 9: Middle Tennessee (L) — The Blue Raiders will have a dynamite offense and will be tough for UConn to beat.
  • Game 10: at Clemson (L) — This will be a game to forget and that is all that needs to be said.
  • Game 11: at UCF (L) — UCF is competing for a spot in the New Year’s Six and will be way too much for UConn.
  • Game 12: Houston (L) — The Cougars are in for a bounceback season and should win this one.

Final record: 2-10

This is a very tough schedule for the Huskies and there are some games that they don’t have a realistic chance of winning. Games against Yale, Holy Cross, and UMass are going to be the pivot points for the season and if UConn can find a way to win all of them, that can be considered a modest level of improvement and something to build on for the program.
