Louisiana Tech’s potential on offense rests on health of QB

The Bulldogs did not have a great all-around offense last season, but one bright spot was quarterback Luke Anthony. He really shined in the passing game and showed improvement each week until suffering a bad leg injury in December.

If Anthony is a full-go this season, that would be a big boost to an offense that really needs it. If he can’t go at the start of the season, backup Austin Allen has experience but lacks the talent that Anthony possesses.

The Bulldogs’ running game was one of the worst in the country, averaging only 99 yards per game last fall. If Anthony is not healthy, that number is not going to be good enough for Louisiana Tech and they need a boost from somewhere. Marcus Williams Jr. is transferring in from App State and he is expected to be the new starter at running back. Williams was very good for the Mountaineers and brings loads of experience.

The wide receiver group was not great last season and it does not appear to be much better in 2021. Isaiah Graham and Griffin Herbert are back to start on the outside, as is Smoke Harris, who led the team in receptions, even though he did not start. Harris is a pretty good weapon, but the other receivers on the roster leave a lot to be desired.

The offensive line is only returning two starters and they need to improve mightily from a season ago.

This offense has a lot of question marks, but if Anthony is healthy, they have a chance to be better, especially with the addition of Williams Jr.
