Georgia Tech Football could have dynamic running game in 2021

This has the chance to be Georgia Tech’s most dynamic offense in some time, especially on the ground. The Yellow Jackets are still young in some spots, but the potential is obvious.

At quarterback, Jeff Sims is back after having one of the best seasons ever for a Georgia Tech freshman quarterback. Sims threw for nearly 2,000 yards, with 13 touchdowns, but there was one negative with his play last season. Sims threw 13 interceptions and lost fumbles as well and he must take better care of the football if Georgia Tech wants to be better this season. Sims showed flashes of elite play, but being more consistent with fewer turnovers is the key to him being an All-ACC caliber quarterback.

The running game is going to be one of the ACC’s best. Last season, freshman Jahmyr Gibbs showed why he was one of the top running back recruits in the country, rushing for 303 yards and three touchdowns.

Jordan Mason, who was third-team All-ACC in 2019, is back after missing most of last season with an injury. Look for talented backs Dontae Smith and Jamious Griffin to also factor in as well. If Mason is back to his 2019 form and Gibbs takes another step forward, lookout.

Georgia Tech is returning four of their top six receivers, but this is a position that needs to be a lot better this season. Malachi Carter and Adonicas Sanders are going to be two of the starters but look for Northwestern transfer Kyric McGowan to make an impact as a receiver. The line is going to be welcoming in some new additions as well, with Vanderbilt transfer offensive tackle Devin Cochran and Norfolk State transfer Kenneth Kirby are looking to make an instant impact. This offense has potential, but they are still young in a lot of places.
