How will Army football fare in 2021?

The advantage that Army has when they play anyone is running the triple option. The Black Knights are a special prep for anyone they play.

  • Sept. 4: at Georgia State (W) — The Black Knights open with a tough game on the road against the Panthers. Led by quarterback Cornelious Brown IV, Georgia State is an experienced team. However, Army wins a close game by limiting Georgia State’s possessions.
  • Sept. 11: WKU (W) — Western Kentucky is an up-and-coming program in Conference USA. However, the Hilltoppers were awful against the run. Advantage Black Knights. Army wins this one by a couple of possessions.
  • Sept. 18: UConn (W) — The Huskies are terrible, and Army should have no problem against UConn.
  • Sept. 25: Miami (OH) (W) — The RedHawks are a solid MAC team and could give Army a tough go. However, there is nothing dynamic about Miami offensively. The Black Knights wear down the RedHawks and win a low-scoring game.
  • Oct. 2: at Ball State (W) — The Cardinals won the MAC title last season and will contend against this season. This is a true toss-up game. Ball State was decent but not great against the run. Army finds a way to pressure Drew Plitt and pull out a close game on the road.
  • Oct. 16: at Wisconsin (L) — This should be a slugfest. The Army will not back down from a clearly superior opponent. The Black Knights find some success running the ball and possessing the football. However, Wisconsin scores on the possessions they have and pull away late.
  • Oct. 23: Wake Forest (W) — This is the Army’s upset special of the season. Wake Forest travels north to Blaik Field and cannot stop the running game. The Black Knights keep the ball away from Sam Hartman and the offense.
  • Nov. 6: Air Force (Arlington, Texas) (W) — This is Army’s first step to repeating as Commander-In-Chief Trophy winners. The Air Force is no match for the Black Knights in Texas.
  • Nov. 13: Bucknell (W) — Army rolls against an inferior FCS opponent.
  • Nov. 20: UMass (W) — Army rolls against an inferior opponent who should probably be in FCS.
  • Nov. 27: at Liberty (L) — This is a toss-up. There is not a quarterback like Malik Willis on their schedule, and he is the difference in what should be a game of the year candidate.
  • Dec. 11: Navy (East Rutherford, NJ) (W) — The Black Knights and Midshipmen is always a good game. The Army is the better team again this season, however. Army rolls on their way to winning their second Commander-In-Chief Trophy in a row.

Prediction 10-2

Mark your calendars for November 27th when Army travels to Lynchburg, Virginia, to play the Liberty Flames. That has ‘game of the year’ written all over it. Army has all the ability in the world to get their 10 wins, but they have to earn them.

Four of their first five games could go either way. A lot depends on the stability at quarterback and how well the new-look offensive line plays.
