Florida State football has been on a downward trend in the past few years, but head coach Mike Norvell is hoping to turn that around and a win over Notre Dame in the first week of the season would certainly change the mood quickly about the Seminoles.

The Noles brought in McKenzie Milton from the transfer portal to see if he’ll be the answer at quarterback but Jordan Travis, the other quarterback was the leading rusher last season and should still have some role offensively.

FSU has talent and if Milton is healthy, this is a dangerous matchup for the Irish, especially because season openers, just like bowl games, can be a little unpredictable.

Watching Notre Dame travel to Blacksburg will be interesting. The Hokies aren’t what they were under Frank Beamer and went 5-6 last season.

But the Hokies have former Oregon transfer, Braxton Burmeister, at quarterback, and running back Raheem Blackshear (a Rutgers transfer) is dangerous. It just feels like a game that may have the Irish on upset alert.

Of course, this is one of those games, where the favorite (Notre Dame) will need to make some mistakes.

Jack Coan, who is projected as the starter, doesn’t make a ton of those. However, he’s not overly dynamic either and this feels like it could turn into a low-scoring affair.
