Utah Football will once again have one of nation’s best defenses

Utah has become one of the most consistent programs when it comes to having elite defensive play and this season, they should be a lot closer to their 2019 version than they were to last year’s good, but not great defense.

On the defensive line, Mika Tafau and Maxs Tupai are going to be the starters on the edge and Tafua had three sacks in five games for the Utes last season and Tupai forced two fumbles.

The interior of the defensive line is going to be led by two seniors in Hautai Pututau and Viane Moala. This is going to be a strong unit in 2021.

The linebackers are going to be led by the defense’s best player Devin Lloyd, who had 48 tackles and two sacks for the Utes last season.

Lloyd is the best player on the defense, but his counterpart at linebacker, Nephi Sewell, is also a very talented and effective player. This is one of the best linebacker duos in the conference.

The secondary is going to have a lot of talent in it this fall. Freshman cornerback Clark Phillips III is in for a big season and opposite of him is JaTravis Broughton.

At safety, Vonte Davis and Kamo’i Latu are one of the top duos in the PAC-12 and Davis had two interceptions last season. This is going to be the best defense in the conference in 2021.
