3. Peters needs to make some key throws against Nebraska.

The Fighting Illini know where their bread is buttered. Illinois returns a veteran offensive line, including the return of center Doug Kramer. Both tackles Verderian Lowe and Alex Palczewski, are legitimate NFL prospects as well.

Behind what should be a solid offensive line is a running back room that is four deep. The two Chases (Brown and Hayden) both get their fair share of carries, with Reggie Love III and Mike Epstein able to impact the passing game.

Bielema, a Hayden Frye disciple and former Wisconsin coach, wants to play physical power-running football. However, the offense needs Peters to play with his arm in critical moments during the game.

Peters is expected to take care of the ball and limit his mistakes. Bielema expects Peters to be more accurate with the football and, most importantly, not throw the football to the wrong jersey. If the passing game compliments the run effectively, mission accomplished.

However, for Illinois football to win this game, the Illini need more than 12-for-20 passing and 200 yards with no interceptions. Peters has to complete passes down the field to keep Nebraska’s defense honest.

Keep an eye on the Isaiah Williams/Brandon Peters connection. Williams, recruited as a quarterback by the Lovie Smith regime, converted to wide receiver and has drawn rave reviews by the coaching staff.

Nebraska cannot just key in on the running game if they can connect on some chunk plays.
