Bret Bielema was a great hire

When Bret Bielema was hired as Illinois football coach, it made a ton of sense. The guy has three Big Ten championships to his credit and he knows how to recruit the Midwest.

He’s also spent time learning in the NFL and now that he’s back in the Big Ten, I fully expect him to be successful again.  Of course, what is success at Illnois?

Going to bowl games every year and occasionally contending in the Big Ten West seems like the ceiling. And if Saturday was any indication, Bielema was the right man for the job.

Unlike Nebraska, Illinois football was prepared for Saturday and even when its backup quarterback was knocked out of the game, the Fighing Illini didn’t skip a beat.

The players also seemed to really enjoy playing for Bielema judging by this post-game celebration.

It was a great start and a win over Nebraska might not mean much, but at least Illinois football fans can feel good about their new head coach.

When have Nebraska fans ever been able to say that about Frost?
