8. Florida State Seminoles
Key returning players: Jordan Travis, Lawrance Toafili, Jashaun Corbin
Key losses: Asante Samuel II
Season Outlook: How will the Florida State Seminoles gauge progress this season? Since Mike Norvell made his bones as an offensive coach, the first place would be a level of stability at quarterback. Coach Norvell and his offensive staff would prefer to play one quarterback all season, barring injury.
Last season, the ‘Noles played four different quarterbacks at various times during the season. James Blackman transferred out, and McKenzie Milton has transferred into the program. Milton seemed like the frontrunner after spring, but Travis has been impressive with throwing the football during summer and fall camp.
The youth movement continues with the skill position. The Seminoles did sign some transfers to cover for some younger players until they are ready. Kansas transfer Andrew Parchment is a solid third receiver, and Dillon Gibbons and Devontay Love-Taylor are grad transfers on the offensive line.
Defensively, can the Seminoles congeal in time to be competitive? Florida State has many young talents, but FSU also has some transfers, including Alabama A&M transfer Marcus Cushnie and South Carolina transfer Keir Thomas.
Though the defense is young in many places, except for Asante Samuel II could be a case of addition by subtraction.
