Jalen Berger and Chez Mellusi combine for 150 on the ground

Jalen Berger had a small taste of success last year for the Wisconsin Badgers on offense. The talented running back is looking to build onto that success this upcoming season. Berger rushed for 301 yards on 60 carries and rushed for two touchdowns during his freshman campaign. What is really impressive is that Jalen did not see the field until November 11th against Michigan.

The New Jersey native only played in four games overall including the Michigan game but would have played in more if he did not test positive for COVID-19 which ended his season earlier and forced him to miss the last two games of the season.

Since Wisconsin is known by many as running back university they have other talented backs that will be seeing the field with Berger. One of the big names who will be sharing the bulk of the carries with Jalen Berger will be Chez Mellusi.

The former Clemson Tiger chose the Badgers to continue his college career in Madison. Chez Mellusi was awarded the top spot on the depth chart for the opener again Pen State, but still expect to see a lot from Berger as well. Mellusi and Berger should be a very nice combo that teams are not going to enjoy facing throughout the year.

Wisconsin football has always been a pound the ball on the ground and control the clock and tempo type of team. Not saying they cannot beat you through the air, but running the ball has always been in the Badgers’ DNA as a team.

Berger and Mellusi will have huge games on the ground on Saturday and see them passing 150 rushing yards as a unit. At the end of the season, I believe Berger will be a 1,000-yard rusher for the Badgers and a good chance of taking home the Big 10 Freshman of the Year award (still qualifies since he only played 4 games in 2020). Big things lie ahead for both Berger and Mellusi in Wisconsin Badgers uniforms.
