Georgia makes a statement

A number of teams notched eye-opening wins during the first week of the college football season, but no team did more for its college football playoff hopes than the Georgia Bulldogs.

We broke down what it meant following the Bulldogs’ 10-3 win in Charlotte last Saturday night, but it means that the Bulldogs are in the driver’s seat in terms of their playoff hopes.

There is still a lot of work to do. Make no mistake about that. The Bulldogs would have to get through the regular season unscathed, however, if that happens, Georgia could have a playoff berth locked up by then.

Assuming Clemson wins the ACC and that’s a strong assumption until someone knocks the Tigers off their pedestal, how could a one-loss Clemson team, even as ACC champion, pass a Georgia team, which in this scenario, would have only lost to Alabama.

Maybe if the Alabama loss was lopsided. But if it’s a close game, how could anyone say Georgia belongs outside the top four with a straight face?

Of course, Florida looms on the schedule, as well as the usual SEC challenges. But the Bulldogs are in a great spot and as long as they take care of business, their resume will be top-notch.
