4. Florida State, 1-0: Moving the Seminoles up to fourth after a loss could be a complete overreaction to their game against Notre Dame. However, there was a lot to like after the 41-38 overtime loss at Doak Campbell Stadium Sunday night.

The Seminoles were a team with a reputation for quitting since Jimbo Fisher was head coach. Last night, the Florida State could have very well packed it in when the Irish went up by three scores late in the fourth quarter.

However, the Seminoles dug in, especially defensively, and forced the game into overtime. This was the first time in recent memory that a Florida State team looked like they felt like they belonged with a team as good as Notre Dame.

On the field, Florida State looked fast. The Seminoles had speed when thinking back to players like Amp Lee, Warrick Dunn, and Dalvin Cook. Running backs Jashaun Corbin and Treshaun Ward and wide receiver Ja’Khi Douglas were dynamic with the ball.

The secondary definitely misses Asante Samuel II, but the Irish ran for just 1.9 yards per carry against a stout Florida State front seven. When they needed it, the defense bowed up and shut the Irish out in the fourth quarter.

Mike Norvell and the offensive staff need more from the quarterback position, which could mean giving McKinzie Milton a start. However, if the Seminoles play with this amount of confidence, someone might get got.
