College Football 2021: Winners, losers from Week 3 AP Top 25
Winner: Arkansas (up to No. 20)
I don’t think it can be said enough of how good of a job that Sam Pittman has done so far at Arkansas. Just two years ago, the Razorbacks were at the bottom of the SEC and it looked like they had to settle for hiring Pittman, who did have experience as the offensive line coach with the Razorbacks. Pittman has completely changed the culture of the Arkansas football program and it is not out of the question that the Razorbacks might be the second-best team in the SEC West.
Arkansas’s defense dominated the Longhorns offense and they had a great night running the football. KJ Jefferson still could improve as a passer, but his running ability should be unquestioned. There is a tough schedule ahead, but the future looks bright for Arkansas.
Winner: BYU (up to No. 23)
BYU had a lot of doubters heading into the season (myself included), but the Cougars have answered the call so far in 2021. After a narrow escape of Arizona in Week 1, BYU snapped a long losing streak to its hated rivals, the Utah Utes.
BYU lost a lot of talent from their team last season and it was expected that they would take a big step back. So far so good for the Cougars in 2021.
The defense remains stout and the offense is getting adjusted to a new starting quarterback. The Cougars are a team that could get even better throughout the season.
