ACC Football Power Rankings: Florida State, Miami look to rebound in Week 3
By Dante Pryor
8. No. 24 Miami Hurricanes (1-1)
The ‘Canes looked like they had an Alabama beatdown hangover coming back to defeat the Appalachian State Mountaineers 25-23 at Hard Rock Stadium. The passing game has not taken the step for the Hurricanes to contend in the ACC.
Defensively, they looked much better against the Mountaineers than they did against the Crimson Tide. However, Alabama is going to make everyone look bad. The question in Coral Gables has to be, “How good are the Hurricanes?”
That question can start to be answered against Michigan State this weekend.
7. No. 21 North Carolina Tar Heels (1-1)
After getting handled by Virginia Tech opening weekend, the Tar Heels blew out Georgia State. That makes this weekend’s game against Virginia all the more intriguing. The Cavaliers have looked pretty good this season at 2-0.
North Carolina lost a lot to the NFL draft, something that the program is not used to. Sam Howell has to prove that he can take the reigns of the offense and be a true difference-maker. Virginia head coach Bronco Mendenhall will have the V-Men ready to play.
6. Boston College Eagles (2-0)
Boston College might find it hard to win games after quarterback Phil Jurkovec went down with a hand injury. It looks as if the Notre Dame transfer is out for the season because of the injury. That leaves the quarterbacking duties to Dennis Grosel.
Without defense or a running game to lean on, it will be difficult for the Eagles to compete in the ACC. You hate to see it because Jurkovec and the Eagles were playing well early in the season.
