Notre Dame Football: 3 hot takes for Irish in victory over Purdue
Kyren Williams looked like 2020 Kyren Williams
Kyren Williams had a great year for Notre Dame last year in 2020. Took a few weeks into 2021 but we saw the Kyren Williams that arrived on the scene last year against Purdue on Saturday.
In no way am I saying that Kyren Williams played terrible in the first two games of the year. Something just looked a tad off to start the year for the talented running back before Saturday’s game.
Kyren Williams had a great game both in the rushing and the passing game for Notre Dame. Williams rushed for 91 yards on 12 rushes and one touchdown on the ground. The St Louis Native also had two receptions for 47 yards and a key 39 yard touchdown reception when Jack Coan threaded the needle on fourth down to him.
Williams just seemed to run with a lot of confidence and finished his runs with more authority than what we saw in the first two weeks. Kyren Williams still has not gone over the 100 yard mark on the ground yet, but that will come sooner rather than later.
The Irish had to replace four starters on the offensive line from last years team. Maybe it just took them a little while to get the ground game going more smoothly overall. Notre Dame is entering the real difficult part of its schedule in the next few weeks so they will need Kyren Williams to help carry the load on the ground.
If Kyren Williams can run and catch like he did on Saturday for the rest of the year he will help bring a lot more wins to Notre Dame and add onto Brian Kelly’s win total.
Notre Dame will now shift its focus to their next Big Ten opponent in the Wisconsin Badgers. These two top 20 teams will meet up in Chicago in week four next Saturday.
