Irish have depth at quarterback position

Notre Dame quarterback Jack Coan injured his ankle in the third quarter and unfortunately could not return. Never want to see anybody get hurt. Especially in a game that Coan had circled for a while against his former school in Wisconsin.

With Coan out you would expect that Notre Dame would turn to freshman quarterback Tyler Buchner as he has seen time throughout the year. Buchner was dressed, but injured his hamstring last week against Purdue and was just not ready for game action.

With Jack Coan injured, and Tyler Buchner unavailable the next man up for Notre Dame was Drew Pyne. It isn’t easy coming in cold off the bench but Pyne should made it look easy.

Drew Pyne finished the afternoon with 6 completions for 81 yards, and a touchdown through the air. He did have one turnover with a fumble but there were way more positives than negatives.

The New Canaan Connecticut native in Pyne really had some big time throws to move the ball as the rushing attack was just not there. Pyne seemed very poised out there and is more mobile like fellow quarterback Buchner to escape pressure.

At the moment it looks like Jack Coan avoided a major ankle injury and hopefully Tyler Buchner’s hamstring is able to heal up and get better soon.

But it is nice to know if called upon that Pyne knows he can step in and do what he did on Saturday if his number is called moving forward.

Next. Projected Top 25 for Week 5. dark

The schedule does not get any easier for Notre Dame. The Irish now must turn the page and focus on a really good team in Cincinnati when they come to South Bend next weekend. There will be a lot of storylines in this undefeated matchup.
