Texas A&M Football: 3 Hot Takes from loss to Arkansas
By Shelbie Warr
2. No defensive slander here.
I saw a lot of people wanting to complain about every aspect of the Aggies game on Saturday. However, let’s look really critically at the Aggie defense.
Yes, they gave up 17 points in the first half. Yeah, they gave up two big touchdown plays that were atrocious to see. However, they made adjustments at halftime and didn’t allow much until a fourth-quarter field goal on an interception that many people think should have been called back for targeting.
DeMarvin Leal, Aaron Hansford, Antonio Johnson, Leon O’ Neal, and Jayden Peevy had big games in terms of total tackles. The defense put together two sacks and eight tackles for loss. There is no reason to blame the defense for this loss.
Could they have made a couple more plays? Of course. However, this is not their loss. The offense couldn’t keep up and was simply outplayed. That being said though, this defense belongs on a 10-2, 11-1 type roster. The offense? Not so much.
