College Football Top 25: Recapping Week 6, previewing Week 7
By Mitch Kaiser
12. Oklahoma State (5-0)
Oklahoma State had a bye week after two big wins against ranked opponents. They are currently riding a lot of momentum and will need that momentum as they take on another ranked opponent this upcoming week against Texas which I think will be their toughest test yet.
Next game: vs. Texas
My prediction: Lose 36-28
13. Ole Miss (5-1)
Another game of the year candidate is Ole Miss versus Arkansas. This game was amazing if you love offense and literally came down to a missed two-point conversion that led to a Rebels’ victory. The over/under in this game was 67. I feel sorry if you picked the under in this one as there ended up being a total of 103 points scored. The fourth quarter alone saw 41 points.
Ole Miss definitely bounced back from a week ago and showed their dominant offense once again. I believe Matt Corral should now be the Heisman front runner as he has not yet thrown a pick and continues to win utilize his legs just as much as his strong arm. He spread the ball around very efficiently in this one having five receivers that all had two catches but none with more than that. That shows a lot of pocket presence and great vision by the junior quarterback.
Next game: vs. Tennessee
My prediction: Win 42-31
14. Notre Dame (5-1)
Notre Dame’s quarterback conundrum continues to confuse me. I am not quite sure what Brian Kelly is going for but hey, at least they won the game. He started Jack Coan once again but also played backup Tyler Buchner. We did not see Drew Pyne once though which made no sense to me as he has looked the best out of all three quarterbacks thus far.
Buchner provides some running ability for the Irish but that’s about it. Coan started slow but actually came up pretty big down the stretch leading two clutch drives to come back and win.
The Fighting Irish are 5-1 but they need to figure out this quarterback situation going forward. You cannot platoon three different quarterbacks and expect any of them to get in a rhythm. Lucky for them, they have a bye week they can use to figure some things out.
Next game: Bye
