LSU Football: 5 possible candidates to replace Ed Orgeron
By Dante Pryor
1. Lane Kiffin, Ole Miss HC
Lane Kiffin is not top on this list because he’s the likeliest of candidates; Jimbo Fisher is expected at the top of Woodward’s wish list. However, it would be outrageous if Kiffin left Oxford for Baton Rouge.
Moreover, it would be very Lane Kiffin of Lane Kiffin if he left for LSU. There is one issue: it’s Kiffin. Former Tennessee, USC, Raiders, and Florida Atlantic head coach does not bring much hardware to the table.
Kiffin has neither conference nor national titles to his credit as a head coach. Woodward would have to be willing to deal with everything that comes with hiring Lane Kiffin as head coach. Woodward and the powers at LSU might not be that willing since they just did the same thing with Orgeron.
That is not to say that Kiffin’s potential as a head coach is not through the roof. He began the high-powered Alabama offensive era, did a better job than people know at Florida Atlantic, and has been outstanding for Mississippi.
Is the risk worth the reward for Kiffin?
Kiffin has washed the stink of being fired at the airport by USC and the debacle that was his time with the Raiders; there are some antics the LSU brass would instead do without.
