3. Houston Cougars

Houston head coach Dana Holgorsen knows a thing or two about resurrecting the career of cast-off starting quarterbacks. When Will Grier transferred to West Virginia from Florida, he was ousted because of a PED suspension.

Then head coach Jim McElwain had told Grier to look for somewhere else to play before that incident. Grier then went to West Virginia and became one of the best quarterbacks in Mountaineer history.

Holgorsen could do the same for Rattler. If Rattler transferred now, he’d be a redshirt senior when the Cougars transition to the Big 12. Incumbent Houston quarterback Clayton Tune is a junior, but Rattler is the better player here.

Holgorsen’s variant of the Air-Raid is yet another system that does not rely heavily on the quarterback running game. This scheme is the type of offense that could take advantage of Rattler’s skill set. The Arizona native has a quick release and has good ball placement.

The question for Rattler will be if he sees playing in the American for a season or two as a demotion rather than an opportunity. One of his former teammates, Tanner Mordecai, has found great success in the American with SMU.

Houston might be the best fit for Rattler and what he does well behind the center of any team on this list.
